Exterior Brick Skirting & Craftsman Column Design

I am really happy to say that our exterior brick is all done!!! And I really couldn’t be happier! I myself, am not a brick person… but this is gorgeous!!! We used a custom blend of Kasten’s Concrete Brick Series in K15 Cloud Grey with some whites added in.

I’m overjoyed with how it turned out!

View from the font… sans brick columns.

Isn’t it crazy to think that this… is the sketch I had at the start… Boy has it come along way in a few short months!

Below is the rental side… You can see my Feather River Rochester Patina Doors in this post! Seriously, they were a steal!

We decided to go with the rowlock (rolok) for the sill instead of the stone ledger.

Above is an example of stone as the sill. Below is our wonderful rowlock grey and white bricks!

Isn’t it beautiful?! It will look so pretty next to our dark siding. 🙂

We did however choose concrete column caps. This is going to be the perfect base for our custom craftsman tapered columns! (Which I am ecstatic about!!!)

Here’s a little draft as to what those will look like…

I am by no means a seasoned sketch artist. Truly, I totally made this up. So if you have suggestions… please leave them in the comment section below!

For example… I am not sure if my dimensions are accurate for the taper and it’s trim?

Building the brick columns

Have you ever seen a mason build brick columns before? It’s pretty awesome! They had the level out and were checking each brick as they went and then went back to double check. They filled the bases with brick and more mortar…

Did I mention that they worked in the mud and freezing cold? Seriously, these men were artisans!

Below is the rental side with the column caps on.

And our side… with the brick all finished! Check out the detail on the door base! #rowlock

Our side finished!

Here’s a selfie of hubby and I! We feel so proud of our accomplishments! It’s all due to God’s grace and hubby’s hard work! Who knew a year ago we’d be building a home?! Not me.

I’ll leave you with this inspiration. It’s the Bible verse that tells the story of my whole life.

Every season of my life… this verse has rung true.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”  Jeremiah 29:11-13

And a sneak peak at the inside… fireplace went in!
